Our Story
Ria Vos began her life in South Africa, the child of Dutch immigrants who managed a Holstein dairy. She grew up in the milking parlor, calving sheds, and fields where she developed a unique understanding of the Holstein cattle. She cultivated her love for dairy during her high school and college years studying dairy science and operations management in the Netherlands. She then studied abroad honing her professional skills as she traveled the world working on dairies in Germany Japan the Czech Republic South Africa and Canada before becoming the United States.
As a student employee, her employer saw her talents and abilities and allowed her to become the herd manager of his dairy. Within two years, Ria had transformed the dairy herd into a very modern style animal that produced well and had very good components of the milk. In 2003 her boss gave her the opportunity to purchase some animals of her own and when he decided to retire in 2008, he offered her the opportunity to rent the milking facilities and to continue her dream of operating her own dairy.
Since then, Ria has been milking cows, experimenting with her milk, making raw milk yogurts, cultured butter, cheeses, and cottage cheese.
Ria is well known to the youth of the area as a person who will allow them the opportunity to show dairy cattle at the local County Fair. Every summer, kids who want to show an animal spends several weeks working with the younger animals on the farm, preparing them for the dairy show at the county fair. This opportunity gives the kids a life-long memory and teaches them leadership, responsibility, and most importantly where their milk comes from, the work involved in producing milk, and respect for the land and for the farmers who produce food.
